In the book, Motivation for High School Marching Band, Emma read about a boy named Steven who played the clarinet in the marching band. He was shy, didn’t have many friends, and thought he couldn’t do much with his life.
While in marching band, Steven learned to be more disciplined and fight through tough conditions.
He also learned teamwork and how to overcome mistakes.
When Steven noticed other teen students reading science fiction books, he decided it would be good for him to do that as well.
During a camping trip, each kid took a turn around the campfire to tell a short story. Steven wanted to impress the other kids, so he combined several stories from the science fiction books he read and made up his own tales.
The teens loved it! In fact, they asked Steven if he would tell more stories!
With the combination of marching band and reading stories, Steven changed his life.
In fact, Steven Spielberg went on to make movies like Jurassic Park, which earned over $900 million.
Emma also played the clarinet in marching band and just like Steven, she was shy and didn’t have many friends. By reading about Steven and how he changed his life, Emma decided she would do the same.
Emma is more confident and outgoing. Also, she isn’t shy about telling stories when the band is taking a break.
Her goal is to one day write music and the score for movies, plays, and musicals.
