Those that want to solve the problem are blaming social media, cell phones, parents, teenagers, schools, libraries and bookstores. However, none of those are the reason that voluntary reading is at its lowest in history.
Every industry adjusts to the current generation except for publishing. Think about how music, clothing, soda, snack foods, business, technology, even churches all adjust to today’s generation.
Publishers and authors refuse to adjust how books are written and produced. Instead, they focus on the low current readership rather than gaining new readers.
Here’s a simple question. If traditional publishing, self-publishing and eBooks are working, then why is reading for fun lower than any other time in our history?
We need a new reading program with a new style of book that relates to this generation.
